Ashfield Gateway, Sutton-in Ashfield

This regeneration project was undertaken in partnership with Ashfield District Council and the scheme delivered not only new commercial facilities including a 15,000 sq. m B+Q warehouse, a roadside hotel and 48 eco homes, but also in excess of £4M of direct local benefits including the first privately delivered ‘Mansfield Ashfield Regeneration Route’ trunk road works. A key part of the development package was the sustainability measures and innovative technologies included for B&Q. These include wind and solar generated power, demonstration stage green air conditioning systems, grey water recycling, sustainable drainage systems, and a ground source heat pump. Ecological enhancement was provided with the dedication of 3 acres of open space to the public, complete with comprehensive mature landscaping. The scheme subsequently won a number of environmental and design awards and served to inform B&Q’s subsequent in-house environmental development specification.
